The Goliath birdwing is one of the largest and most spectacular butterflies in the world. It is found mainly in the tropical rainforests of New Guinea and nearby islands. The males have striking black wings with bright green and yellow markings, while the females are larger and mostly dark brown with pale markings. Despite its enormous size, it is a strong flyer and can travel through the rainforest canopy in search of flowers and mates. Its caterpillars feed on Aristolochia plants, which contain chemicals that can help protect them from predators. The Goliath birdwing gets its name from its huge, powerful wings, which can make it look almost like a small bird when it flies.
